Question
Our organization heavily utilizes Custom Views within Tableau. Are these Custom Views accessible and supported through the Digital Hive platform?
Answer
Tableau Custom Views can be accessed from within Digital Hive. Based on the properties of the Tableau connector within Digital Hive, and the usage patterns of the users, a property value may have to be changed.
By default, because Digital Hive logs the user into Tableau as themselves, whatever the default view is for a Tableau object will be respected. For example, opening a Tableau View as a user without a Custom View will produce this outcome.
Opening the same Tableau view in Digital Hive with a user that has a different default Custom View, will result in this:
As you can see, a different result was obtained for two distinct users that each have a different Custom View. No additional configuration changes were required to alter the views, as the decision on which view to display by default is handled by the Tableau Server.
If users have a requirement to be able to switch between Custom Views, then based on the results above, a small property change to the Digital Hive Tableau connector is required so that the toolbar will be visible when running Tableau content.
Using a Digital Hive Administrator account:
- Click on the user's avatar and select Manage Digital Hive
- Expand the Content section
- Select Connectors
- In the right-hand frame, click on the Tableau Connector
- Select Settings
- Scroll down the page to locate the Hide Toolbar property
- Ensure that the value is deselected
- Press the Save button
Following the change, when the same Tableau View is executed through Digital Hive, the result will now contain the Tableau toolbar.
To switch views from the default, click on View: view name which will open the Tableau Custom Views dialog. Click on a different view and that one will render.
The user experience with Custom Views through Digital Hive is the same as when accessing views directly through Tableau. For more information about Custom Views, please consult the
Tableau documentation.
