Connecting to Microsoft PowerBI Report Server

Connecting to Microsoft PowerBI Report Server

Question

Is it possible to connect Digital Hive to an instance of Microsoft PowerBI Report Server? This is the on premises version of Power BI.

Answer

As a Digital Hive administrator, connecting to Microsoft PowerBI Report Server can be accomplished via the following steps:

  1. Open the Digital Hive Control Center
  2. Click on the Connectors and select New Connector
  3. Select Microsoft PowerBI Report Server
  4. Provide a name for the Connector
  5. Select PowerBI RS User Pass as the authentication method. Username and password is currently the only supported way to authenticate against PowerBI Report Server
  6. Enter a system credential and Namespace (AD Domain name)

  7. In the Server information section, provide the Base URL to the Report Server and use Reports as the Path

  8. In the Properties section, provide values for:
Default Namespace: Same as the Namespace used in the system credential
Active Directory URL: Server name/IP and port for the AD server
Active Directory Domain Name: Fully qualified domain name
    AD Username
    AD Password

  9. Press Next
  10. Select the content to be added, like the Root of the PowerBI Report Server

Notes
Once the connector has been added, source content will have to be 'enabled' to be accessible from within Digital Hive. Please consult this document for further steps: https://support.digitalhive.com/portal/en/kb/articles/enable-connector-content-in-digital-hive
