Controlling the Amount of Postgres Backups

The Digital Hive server occasionally runs low on free disk space, which impacts the performance and ability to start Digital Hive. Upon investigation, the majority of the disk space is being consumed by Postgresql backups. Is there a way to control, or limit, the amount of backups that are generated?

This is a new feature as of the 2026.1 release.

As of the 2026.1 release, it is possible to control the amount of backups that are maintained.

To limit the amount of backups that are kept:
  1. Launch Digital Hive as an Administrator
  2. Click on your Avatar (initials in the top right or bottom left corner) and click Manage Digital Hive


  3. In the Control Center, expand System and then click on Backups
  4. Within Backups, there are two sections. One that controls the amount of backups, the other lists the current backups on the system

  5. In the Database Backups section, the default is set to "Unlimited", which means that there will be an automated backup performed every day at 3:15AM. By selecting the Defined Maximum option, you can specify the number of backups that will be kept 

  6. Press SAVE to commit the changes
  7. After saving, you will be prompted with a confirmation message informing you that this will take effect immediately, and will remove the extra backups files from the system, which can not be undone
  8. Press SAVE to confirm the request
  9. Examining the Backups section you will that the number of backups, and the available backups have been modified to reflect the current setting


Alert
The minimum amount of Database Backups that can be kept is 1. If the value is set to 0 it will revert back to 1 to ensure that there is at least one backup
