Enhancing the User Experience with Visual Cues
Question
Is there a way within Digital Hive to highlight certain types of content so that users can easily identify relevant objects? For example, highlighting content that has recently been added, that has been certified, or that have been tagged with a specific metadata tag.
Answer
The best way to solve these requirements would be through the Visual Cues feature within Digital Hive. At a high level, Visual Cues are customizable icons that appear alongside the content to provide additional insight to the user.
The Visual Cues in the previous example, located in the upper right-hand corner of the thumbnail, represent content that has been certified, content that contains restricted data, and content that has a metadata tag of Marketing or Sales. To configure the Visual Cues:
- Launch Digital Hive and login with an admin account
- Click your avatar (located in the top right-hand corner in this example)
- Select Manage Digital Hive
- Expand the section
- Select
- Determine how many Visual Cues should be displayed. Select either the No visual cues, At most one cue, or At most two cues option. At the most two option selected for this example
- Visual Cues work based on rules and are prioritized based on the order in the list. Click on the icon to create a new rule which will look like this by default:
- Click on is new to reveal the list of conditions that are available. There are three types of conditions that can be used as part of the rules definition: is new, which automatically appears for 2 weeks after new content is added to Digital Hive, has tag, which looks at what metadata tags have been added to the system and to the content, and custom field, which evaluates the custom fields that have been defined in the system. For more detail about adding custom fields to Digital Hive: https://support.digitalhive.com/portal/en/kb/articles/adding-custom-metadata-fields
- In this example, we'll leave the default is new option
- Once the condition has been set, the icon and colour can also be modified. Click on the icon selector to select a new icon
- In the Selected Icon dialog, type new and click on the Fiber New icon
- Press Select
- To change the display colour, click on the colour selector icon
- Click the Custom radio button and enter #7CC349 into the colour field
- Click anywhere outside of the colour selection dialog to close it
- Lastly, provide a Tooltip Text description of This content has been recently added
- The final rule should look like this:
- Add more rules as required following steps 7-16
- To delete a rule after it's been added, click on the icon at the left side of the rule entry
- To disable a rule, deselect the corresponding checkbox
- To re-order the rules, click and drag the icon
Here is an example of the final rules that were used to create the earlier screenshot of a Content Lane.
