Exporting Hive Pages to PDF

Exporting Hive Pages to PDF

Question

Is there a way to export Hive pages to PDF so that they can be sent to team members or used in a presentation?

Answer

As of the Digital Hive 2024.2 release, it is possible to export Hive Pages to PDF which can be used for distribution or in presentations.

Prerequisites

The ability to export Hive pages to PDF requires a browser extension to be installed. Once installed, the Hive Page Capture Extension will provide users with the ability to capture the entire current page, not just the portion of the page that is visible.

To install the Chrome extension:
  1. Open the following URL within a Chrome browser session:
    https://chromewebstore.google.com/u/2/detail/hive-page-capture-extensi/ggoabachgmdhknmbfogofgbhjfemegcc?hl=en
  2. Click the  button
  3. Click Add extension to add the Hive Page Capture Extension to Chrome

  4. If the extension was successfully added, a confirmation message will appear. Click X to close it

It is strongly suggested that users opt to make the extension visible at all times. This will add the extension to the browser toolbar so that it is easily accessible.

NOTE: The extension will appear disabled (greyed out like the above screen capture) until there is an active Digital Hive session and then the icon will change to an enabled state
  5. In the browser taskbar, click Extensions
  6. Locate the Hive Page Capture extension and click on the pin icon  to save it to the toolbar

To install the Firefox extension:
  1. Open the following URL within a Firefox browser session:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/hive-page-capture-extension/
  2. Click the  button
  3. Click Add to add the Hive Page Capture Extension to Firefox

  4. If the extension was successfully added, a confirmation message will appear. Click Okay to close it

  5. The Hive Page Capture Extension is now added to Firefox and should be visible in the upper right-hand corner

NOTE: The extension will appear disabled (greyed out like the above screen capture) until there is an active Digital Hive session and then the icon will change to an enabled state

Using the Hive Page Capture Extension

  1. Launch Digital Hive
  2. After successfully logging in, you will notice that the browser extension is now enabled
  3. Navigate to the page to be exported and once the content has fully rendered, click on the extension button in the browser toolbar
  4. This message will appear at the top of the screen  and if the page extends beyond the screen size, then the page will scroll to complete the capture process
  5. Once the capture is complete, the Your Captures dialog will appear

  6. From this dialog, the screen capture can be export to PDF or other formats by using the  button
  7. To capture additional pages, click on the  icon. This will close the Your Captures dialog and allow you to resume your Digital Hive session
  8. Browse to another Hive page, or even a page within a different Hive
  9. Click on the extension button in the browser toolbar  to capture another page
  10. Repeat steps 7-9 until all captures have been collected
  11. If the Your Captures dialog isn't visible, you can return to that dialog by clicking on the Hive Launcher  and then selecting
  12. Within the Your Captures dialog, there are different operations that can be completed before the captures are exported. For example, looking at the following results, the second capture is no longer desired, and the third capture needs to become the first page visible

  13. To remove the second capture, hover over the capture and click on the  icon

  14. To re-order the remaining captures, hover over the last capture and click on the  icon to move the capture ahead of the previous capture
  15. Now that the final desired result has been obtained, click on the Export All to PDF button
  16. It may take a few seconds to start the export process, but in Chrome you will notice the Downloads icon   become active and a pop-up that says  will appear
  17. The captures.pdf document should be found in the Downloads directory of your Operating System
