How to Upload an Image file into Digital Hive as Author

Question

There are images that we would like to use during the creation of our Hives. As an Author, is there a way to upload the files to Digital Hive so that we don't have to connect to the File System or load the images into a Content Management system?

Answer

Images, and other files types, can be uploaded to Digital Hive. These images will be stored within the Digital Hive content store and will appear as part of the Digital Hive folder structure. As a Hive Author, access to the Explore Content widget will not be possible, so files must be uploaded using the Hive Designer.

In order for an Author, or other user with sufficient capabilities, to be able to upload content, they will require edit access to the desired folder location. As an Administrator, ensure that the proper file permissions are set on the target folder.
  1. Launch Digital Hive
  2. Click the user Avatar
  3. Select Explore Content
  4. Navigate to the folder that you want the Author (or other role/user) to be able to upload content to.  In this example, a folder called Visual Assets was used:

  5. Click Permissions
  6. In Search or enter an AD Group, select the Author role (or other role/user):

  7. Under Granted permissions, give that role (in this case Author) Can edit

With the correct folder permissions in place, log into Digital Hive as the Author.
  1. Click on the Hive Launcher  and select Open Designer
  2. On the left-hand side of the Designer, click on Files  to expose the folder browser
  3. Navigate to the desired folder location and then press the vertical ellipsis in the upper right corner of the folder browser  to expose the contextual menu
  4. Select the  option
  5. Using the native file explorer of the OS, select the desired file(s) to upload and press OK
  6. Once in the correct folder, click the ellipsis button
  7. Select Upload files
  8. Using the Operating Systems native file explorer, select the file(s) to be uploaded
  9. Press Open
  10. Once the file upload completes, selection of the file will be possible
Alert
If the Upload files is not available, it is because the correct folder permissions are not in place for the intended folder.
