Embedding Videos on a Hive Page

Embedding Videos on a Hive Page

Question

There are corporate videos that we would like to include within a Hive, is it possible to embed the videos so that they are accessible to users?

Answer

Embedding videos can be done through the use of two different techniques. Which technique will be required will depend on where and how the video is hosted. Videos hosted in YouTube or Vimeo can be embedded using the Video widget within the Hive Designer.
  1. Copy the video URL from YouTube or Vimeo
  2. Open the Digital Hive Designer to edit the desired Hive
  3. Click on Elements
  4. Drag the Video  widget onto the page
  5. Within the Player Settings section of the Video properties panel, paste the video URL into the URL field
  6. Press LOAD to load the video
  7. If the volume for the video is required, adjust the volume to a reasonable level. If the volume is not required, it is highly recommended that the Mute option be selected
  8. To reduce the need for users to manually have to start the video, enable the Autoplay checkbox
  9. Another recommendation is to enable the Repeat Video checkbox so that the video repeats the playback when the end of the video is reached
  10. Save the changes to the Hive

How do I embed videos that are not hosted in YouTube or Vimeo?

Depending on which platform, and how, these videos are streaming from, there are two different approaches that can be taken. First, obtain the URL of the video to be embedded. Then following the previous steps, try to load the video into Digital Hive. If the Video does not load, then the following steps need to be followed:

  1. Open the Digital Hive Designer to edit the desired Hive
  2. Click on Elements
  3. Drag a WebPage  widget onto the page
  4. Within the Webpage Properties section paste the video URL into the URL field
  5. Press LOAD to load the video
  6. Based on how the video is hosted and/or published, the size of the WebPage widget may have to be adjusted
  7. Save the changes to the Hive
It is highly recommended that embedded videos are 'public' and do not require authentication to access. If videos are 'secured' users may be prompted to authenticate using the WebPage embedded technique.
