What's New in the Digital Hive 2025.2 Release

This articles details the new product features, enhancements, and resolved issues, that were included as part of the Digital Hive 2025.2 release.

Prerequisites

To move to this release, this must be a new installation, or you must have an existing Digital Hive 2.x installation. You can install over any fix level releases that were previously applied to Digital Hive.

New Features & Enhancements

Connector support for Tableau Cloud

A new Connector for Tableau Cloud was added to the growing list of supported content providers. Tableau Cloud is a Cloud version of Tableau Server which requires different connectivity parameters than the existing Tableau Server Connector.

Ability to nest pages beneath a menu option

Hive designs often call for the need to have pages nested beneath top level menu options to create a multi level page layout. This is now possible in the Digital Hive 2025.2 release. One example is the desire to have a top level 'Global Sales' page that contains a list of individual country pages nested beneath it.

By default, a user in Digital Hive is not able to see content that they haven't been granted access to. An earlier Digital Hive feature, called Discoverable Search, will expose users to ALL content across all content systems. If a user does not have access to a report, a lock icon will appear in place of the thumbnail, and if the user tries to launch the report, a customizable message would be presented. While promoting true self-service and helping to reduce duplication of created reports, there are some scenarios where certain content, even if a user can't access the report, should be hidden from users.

In the new 2025.2 Digital Hive release, it is now possible to create rules to suppress certain content, or to only show certain content, when the Discoverable Search is enabled.

Set Custom Field values from an Excel xlsx file

Adding Custom Metadata Fields to Enhance Digital Hive Content is a great way to provide users with additional context about the dashboards and reports in your environment. Setting these values required manual effort, but in this release, it is now possible to bulk load any number of updates using a system generated xlsx file.

Service Principal support for PowerBI and Sharepoint Online connectors

It is now possible to integrate with Microsoft PowerBI and Sharepoint Online through the use of a Service Principal as opposed to using a system credential.

Alert
When using Service Principal, PowerBI Apps are excluded from the available content. Due to the Microsoft implementation, it is not currently possible to leverage PowerBI apps with Service Principal

Operational audit metrics displayed in the Control Center

One of the benefits of deploying Digital Hive is the ability to provide visibility into content utilization and access across multiple, disparate, content servers. To accomplish this in previous versions, connecting a third party reporting solution to the Digital Hive audit database was required. The 2025.2 release now provides administrators with high level utilization metrics and visualizations, that offer insight into some the most commonly asked governance questions.
  1. How many users are accessing Digital Hive?
  2. How many reports are being executed across the different content systems?
  3. What are users searching for?
  4. How much content is actually being utilized?
Info
For more information about the provided operational metrics, please consult the Leveraging the Operational Visualizations in the Digital Hive Control Center article.

Even though there are some out of the box metrics and visualizations, this knowledge article is still valid and useful when creating custom audit reports in a third party BI solution: Digital Hive Auditing Explained.

Provide list of all content system objects in Digital Hive

Not all existing artifacts from the various content systems is utilized. Through the Digital Hive audit data, it is possible to analyze which content is being utilized, when it was accessed, and who accessed it. This provides great value for proper cross platform governance, but only highlights content that is actually being utilized. What about the content that isn't being leveraged?

New in this release is the ability to generate a spreadsheet (xslx) file that contains a list of all content available in Digital Hive, the amount of times it has been executed, and when it was last accessed. This includes not only the content that is being utilized, but the content that is not being used. Using this information, you now have evidence of what content is not being used and could possibly be deleted.

To generate the Execution Report:
  1. Log into Digital Hive as an Administrator
  2. Using the user avatar and select Manage Digital Hive
  3. Click on Content -> Connectors
  4. Click Advanced...
  5. Select the Export execution report option which will download an xslx file called content-usage-report-xxxx (where xxxx represents an ID and timestamp)
Opening the spreadsheet in Excel, you will see multiple columns, the first two are minimized as they are for system use. The relevant columns are:
  1. Source: This is the type of content connector where the content comes from
  2. Name: The name of the object (it is possible to have missing names from content based on the content type) coming from the content system
  3. Path: Where the object is located inside the Digital Hive folder structure
  4. VisitCount: This is the amount of times the object has been accessed
  5. LastVisit: The last date/time that the content has been executed

Idea
With this spreadsheet, you can convert the rows and columns into a table which will allow you to sort and filter based on requirements.
