Assigning a Default Thumbnail to a Content Lane

Question

Not all of my content has an automatically generated thumbnail but I would like to have a thumbnail appear as a default in a Content Lane. Is it possible to configure a Content Lane so that a default thumbnail is visible for content that does not have a thumbnail already?

Answer

Yes, it is possible to assign a generic thumbnail image for content that is missing a thumbnail.
  1. Within the Digital Hive designer, select the Content Lane to be modified by clicking on it
  2. Scroll to the Styles section of the Content Lane properties dialog
  3. From within the Styles section, expand Thumbnail by clicking on the down arrow
  4. Ensuring that the Fill tab is selected, click to enable the Draw Background checkbox  
  5. Click on the Background Image icon 
  6. Click on the Image file icon  and navigate to the desired image file
  7. Digital Hive provides different display options for the image, but the recommended approach is to select Fill from the Sizing options
  8. Using the Effects  dropdown, select Opacity and change the value to 60%
  9. Click outside of the image selector to close it
  10. Save the changes made by clicking the save icon in the upper left hand corner
This technique will provide a default thumbnail for all content that does not have a thumbnail provided by the BI system. This thumbnail will fill the Thumbnail window and will appear slightly opaque. As you can see in the screen capture, PowerBI and IBM Planning Analytics do not provide system generated thumbnails, so when this content is rendered in a Content Lane the default thumbnail is displayed.
